The IMAGINARY CONCERTS Radio Series is a project conceived by PETER COFFIN and Gioconda Radio based on a series of possible and impossible imagined concerts that never took place. The radio show is inspired by the collaborative art project Imaginary Concerts, that was begun in 2008 by artist Peter Coffin with contributions from more than 150 musicians, artists, writers, and curators. The project has been published since by Anthology Editions and Printed Matter as a collection of fictitious concert line-ups that include the color "fountain prints" created by Peter Coffin and typesetting and layout design by Adam Turnbull. The prints were made in the original style of the Colby Poster Printing Co., the LA-based print shop that famously churned out their iconic “show print” posters for nearly 65 years before closing their ‪doors in 2012. Every Imaginary Concert episode broadcast on Gioconda Radio will be a simulated version of the dream concert imaginings of the project's participants. The far-reaching mashups – sometimes whimsical and humorous – reveal the impact that the concert experience has on us. The project gives us something that feels personal - it is driven by nostalgia and by what we want to imagine, as music is uniquely suited to do.
